Smoothies are one of my favorite ways to eat fresh produce. They're so simple to make -- just pop everything into the blender and go. And you can put pretty much anything in them you want. You can go all healthy and put spinach and kale and cucumber in it, or you can turn it into a milkshake if you want and add caramel and marshmallow and chocolate. Smoothies are like pizza. Anything goes. And when you make them yourself, they're so much cheaper and more satisfying than one you would by at a restaurant. Better yet, you're not walking around with a plastic or Styrofoam cup that you then have to throw away.
Ingredients
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1 ripe banana
About 12 oz frozen fruit (blueberries in this instance)
A handful of fresh spinach
2 T maple syrup
Put everything into the blender and purée on the fastest setting until everything is the consistency you would like. It helps if you put the yogurt in before the banana, but not necessary.
Keep in mind that this is just what I happened to include in my smoothie tonight. Next time I will probably include a bunch of completely different ingredients. That's one of the fun things about them -- playing around with different flavors. And I would imagine that kale and honey would work just as well in a smoothie as spinach and maple syrup do.
Bon Appetite!
