New recipe tonight! I found this one last week and thought to myself, "Huh. That one looks good." So when Beast and I went grocery shopping this afternoon, we made sure we got all the ingredients for it. As you can see, it looked so good coming out of the oven that Beast and I dove right in. It wasn't until I was halfway through mine that I realized I'd forgotten to take a picture.
I have no idea why it has the name it does. Maybe someone, somewhere, decided it was like a deconstructed cheeseburger, so they made up a name that sounded burger-like. Who knows. But it's plenty tasty!!
Ingredient List
5 potatoes, thinly sliced
1 lb ground beef
1 bell pepper, diced
1 onion, diced
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 tsp salt
1 T brown sugar
2 cups tomato sauce
Preheat oven to 350.
Place the potatoes into a large pot and just cover them with water. Cook just until the potatoes are tender. (Peel the potatoes or not, depending on your whimsy. I didn't.) Drain the potatoes and set aside.
While the potatoes are cooking, sauté on medium heat beef, pepper, and onion until the onions are soft and translucent, and the meat is fully cooked. Turn the heat down to low. In a separate bowl, combine cheese, salt, brown sugar, and tomato sauce.
In a 2 quart casserole dish, alternate layers of beef mixture and potatoes. Pour the tomato mixture over all of it. Bake for 30 minutes.
If I were to make this again (and probably will, since it went over so well), I might put some more seasoning to the beef. Maybe some cumin or chili pepper to give it a taco flavor. Or perhaps some paprika or some liquid smoke for a barbeque flavor. I also think this would be great with some Italian seasoning and sausage instead of ground beef.
Bon Appetite!
